About This Spot

Stepping into The Last Post Memorial Bar and The Don War Memorial Museum & Hub feels like entering a living tribute—where history, camaraderie, and everyday warmth gently merge. Nestled on Cranworth Street in Thornaby, this unique space blends the quiet reverence of a memorial with the easy comfort of a neighborhood gathering spot. The pace here isn’t rushed; it invites lingering, sharing stories, and quietly soaking in the atmosphere crafted by decades of memories and meaningful encounters.

The bar itself unwraps a rich tapestry of military heritage, with walls adorned from floor to ceiling in memorabilia that tell stories of service and sacrifice. This is not just decor—it’s a backdrop for connection. Veterans find a rare sanctuary here, a space to reconnect with comrades and recall moments that marked their lives. Yet there's a welcoming openness that draws in visitors beyond those familiar with the military world; the kindness of the hosts and the inclusive spirit make everyone feel at ease.

The mingling of aromas from freshly brewed coffees and the inviting clink of glasses set the tone for genuine social moments. Whether savoring a carefully poured beer or enjoying the warmth of a well-crafted cocktail, the drinks weave into the experience naturally, complementing afternoons spent exploring the museum’s thoughtfully curated exhibits. Food, when shared, carries the same care—dishes that comfort and satisfy without ceremony, fitting seamlessly into lively conversations or quiet reflections alike.

What truly defines this place is its heartbeat: the people who gather here, bound by respect, laughter, and shared histories. The staff foster a spirit of thoughtful hospitality, quietly attentive and always ready to help create events that celebrate connection without fuss or fanfare. Visitors often find that no visit is quite complete without hours tracing the stories displayed throughout the museum—each artifact and photograph offering a gentle, poignant reminder of the lives behind the uniform.

For those seeking more than a typical outing—whether to honor veterans, to discover local history, or simply to enjoy a welcoming, heartfelt environment—The Last Post is a rare find. It’s a place that encourages you to slow down, listen, and feel a part of something quietly profound, making each visit less about arrival and more about belonging.

Calling all veterans. A wonderful place to meet and enjoy trips down memory lane. All cap badges from all 3 services can meet talk share and laugh over experiences, the pub is wrapped in military memorabilia and pictures of faces and stories of great men. The host is amazing and will sort any upcoming event out with minimal cost for example £5 covered the entertainment and food.

Great place to celebrate our veterans. It's filled floor to ceiling with war memorabilia which would take hours to see it all. There's also a museum attached to it so for all veterans or military enthusiasts, you'll love it. Friendly staff and the food was tasty.

This is the best veterans venue bar none, a great place for a reunion, with the best hosts you could ask for. The prices are competitive, and the atmosphere is what makes it the best place to go. I live 300 miles away, but have travelled there for a number of visits because it is so worth it. The museum is one of the best, and the bar itself has so much on display, you will never actually manage to see all of it in one visit. I can't wait until me next visit. Added to that, Julie is the perfect host, who does so much for the local community, including schools and the elderly. If you are ever in the area, go and visit, you will be made to feel very welcome. If you are organising a reunion, just get in touch with them.

Haven’t eaten there but the atmosphere is amazingly haunting. The dedication that’s gone into capturing the heroic events of our great past wars and campaigns around the globe. As an ex serviceman I found it really moving and can’t wait to return with reinforcements. Great job, well done

Absolutely brilliant experience. Julie and associates very friendly. Reasonably priced drinks and staff provided v v good sandwiches. Loads of military stuff to see, and had a guided tour of museum. We'll be going back. Thanks for making us feel welcome. I cannot recommend this hidden gem enough.

This is a pub/museum. It respects everyone and celebrates our military. Julie Cooper is the main lady and has done most of the ever changing display herself.
